Theworld around us is changing faster than ever before. It is changing politically, socially, technologically, economically and environmentally. Most people do not like change, andif our world is changing rapidly as it is doing today, we tend to hold on to what we know and feel comfortable with. Although this might seem like a logical thing to do, it does not bring us anything. If we want to move forward, we have to embrace change.
Change can create fear, uncertainty, and doubt. It is an emotional experience. Many of us approach change with a negative view, ignoring the positive growth that may come. Perhaps the fear of change is really a fear of loss – because even “good ” change brings loss – the loss of something familiar ultimately. Having worked in a Leasing Office for over ten years, making a decision to change jobs was difficult, challenging and yes, a little scary. If you asked me 10 months ago about my future, I would have responded with my goals and ambitions of becoming a Regional Portfolio Manager. Everything changed so suddenly and I felt like a failure. I had felt like my career suddenly ended that day.
I turned the situation into a learning experience, and reflecting now, I know things in life happen for a reason so I take it as one of the best things that ever happened to me. As time goes on, it becomes much easier to reflect on the situation. I’ve now been on my own for over five months starting a business and I’ve already been able to learn and grow in this short amount of time.
I realized people that empower themselves to carve out their own path tend to have higher levels of job satisfaction simply due to the fact that they are where they chose to be vs. someone choosing for them. Thank you to my network for all the kind words and guidance! Your encouragement means a lot to me and I truly look forward to my next career adventure.
